Rajnath blames militants for ceasefire failure, asks forces to resume operations | KNO

Srinagar June 17 (KNO) : After a month long ceasefire, the union home minister Rajnath Singh today announced the end of operation halt and asked the forces to resume anti militancy operations in J&K. In a series of tweets, Singh wrote the GoI has decided not to extend the ceasefire that started at the beginning of Ramzan.

"While it was expected that everybody will cooperate in this initiative, forces displayed exemplary restraint but militants continued with their attacks on forces and civilians resulting in deaths and injuries," Singh wrote in second tweet.

In his third tweet, Singh wrote forces are directed to take all necessary actions as earlier to prevent militants from launching attacks and indulging violence and killings. The Home Minister had announced ceasefire on May 17 for the month of Ramadan and it was expected he may extend it. He chaired two back to back meetings over the issue and announced his decision today.

While has 18 militants were killed at Loc and hinterland, 3 policemen were also killed in militant strikes. More than 50 people including 17 forces personnel were injured in 12 grenade attacks by militants in 30 days of Ramadhan.
